Our big news around here is that we have put down a deposit on a
flat (Mansion) in Kita Shinjuku, near Okubo station. We're waiting to hear
whether we got final approval on the loan. This is all very scary to
me...I got married, had two kids with the guy, got my permanent residency permit,
but somehow buying property seems a lot more permanent than any of that!
Also, with the way things work in Japan, it makes more sense for only Takashi's name to be on the deed. If both our names go on it, we both have to pay taxes on it and we
both have to undergo an extensive backgroud check and a lot of other stuff
which makes no sense since at the moment I have no income. It gets my
Feminist panties in a twist but oh well.
BTW...before I agreed to it, I made him get down on his knees and swear that
if things did get ugly between us he would give me custody of the kids no matter
what and not fight it. Not that I plan of leaving him, but I am too American to
really believe in forever without that "just in case?" in the back of my mind.
My Mom, of course, said in a sarcastic tone, "Oh yeah, right, that's REALLY fair..
he gets the house, you get the kids!" but frankly, I coldn't give two farts about
property. My kids are the ONLY thing that really matters to me. He is a good father
but if the unthinkable should happen....they are MINE.
It's a real sign....our current apartment is literally falling apart around us. There is a big hole in the bedroom wall where it's rotted from the moisture that pours
down from the window every morning. The toilet started dripping everytime we flush it and probably needs to be replaced. The last time the gas cimpany inspected our bath, they warned us that it's old and could be releasing dangerous exhaust fumes.
And the kitchen water heater is in bad shape and could go any moment.
Time to MOVE ON!!
